From Village Courtyards to Celebrity Closets: The Phulkari Comeback You Didn’t See Coming

Hopelessly in love with the phulkari embroidery? Well, long before fashion weeks and designer labels, there was Phulkari. And trust me, it needed no dramatic runways and couture shows to be extraordinary. Phulkari, from the Punjabi "phul" (flower) and "kari" (work), translates simply to "flower work." But there is nothing simple about it. It is Punjab's most intimate art form: conceived by women, carried by women, and passed between generations. The same way gold jewellery or whispered prayers are passed with fierce and quiet devotion.  Stitched Into History  Some historians believe the style was popular as long ago as the 7th century, with a biography of Indian emperor Harshavardhana describing people "embroidering flowers and leaves on the cloth from the reverse side" — which preci...

Rishab Rikhiram Sharma’s Bold Mehendi Might Be the Coolest Groom Trend Yet

For generations, the cultural narrative surrounding mehendi has remained steadfastly uniform. We associate it with the brides. We picture delicate vines, intricate paisleys, and a hyper-feminine aesthetic that blankets the hands and arms in a maze of henna. Grooms, if they participated at all, often settled for a minimalist dot on the palm or a hidden initial tucked away out of sight.  But style, like culture, is fluid. The narrative is shifting, and the modern groom is demanding a seat at the aesthetic table. Enter Rishab Rikhiram Sharma, a key figure driving a massive visual shift in wedding menswear. He treats mehendi not as a fleeting bridal tradition, but as an expressive, intentional medium rooted deeply in personal identity.  Rishab’s approach creates an entirely new visual language...

Ranveer Singh Just Confirmed: The Bandhgala Is the Only Occasion Wear That Matters Right Now

There's a particular kind of confidence that comes with wearing something that knows exactly what it is. No apologies, no overexplanation. Just structure, fabric, and the quiet authority of a silhouette that has outlasted every trend that ever tried to replace it. Ranveer Singh understood this perfectly when he walked into the NMACC third-anniversary gala — and for once, the most daring thing he did was show restraint in his statement bandhgala. A Look That Said Everything by Saying Very Little The man who once showed up to an airport in what appeared to be a court jester's fever dream arrived at this particular pink carpet in a custom Anamika Khanna bandhgala, and somehow that felt more radical.   Deep, ink-black, fine pure wool. An open collar fastened with handcrafte...

From Temple Walls to Couture Runways: The Unstoppable Rise of Pichwai Art in Indian Fashion

Long before it graced bridal lehengas and runway sarees, Pichwai art served a sacred purpose. Originating nearly 400 years ago in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, these elaborate cloth paintings were created as backdrops for the idol of Shrinathji — a form of Lord Krishna — inside the revered Haveli temple. The word itself tells the story: 'pichh' means 'behind' and 'wai' means 'hanging'.  Each Pichwai was painted by artists of the Jangad and Gauda castes using natural pigments derived from lapis lazuli, indigo, copper acetate, and mercury sulphide, applied with brushes made of goat and squirrel hair. Themes ranged from Krishna's Rasleela and the Gopashtami to the iconic Giriraja – Krishna lifting the Govardhan mountain – and the Morbuti, depicting twelve peacocks in a mesmerising dance.  T...
